According to The Leader, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has verified that defender Aaron Hayden’s injury is not as bad as first feared.
The defender was taken off with a thigh injury during Saturday’s win against Doncaster Rovers, but he isn’t likely to be sidelined for “weeks and weeks” as was initially thought.
How important is Aaron Hayden?
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers teenager has had lot of success in Wales since joining Wrexham in April 2021.
Hayden has taken full use of his time with Wrexham after years of youth football and lesser Non-League loans (apart from his stay at Carlisle), netting 20 goals in 72 outings as a defender and is only one match away from matching his appearance figures from his time at Carlisle United.
History has not repeated itself.
Hayden had a calf injury earlier this year against Sheffield United in the fourth round of the FA Cup. However, the defender’s injury was as catastrophic as first thought, and he missed the rest of the football season.
This included watching from the stands as Wrexham defeated Notts County to win the National League title and reclaim their place in the football league.
