Even though the Premier League released the appeal ruling on Monday (February 26), former Everton manager Keith Wyness maintained that the team “may not be finished yet.”

The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, exclusively told Football Insider that the club may challenge certain aspects of the appeal ruling with the Premier League.

On Monday, February 26, it was officially announced that Everton’s point deduction for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) had been lowered from ten to six following an appeal.

Everton lodged nine objections regarding their 10-point punishment, of which the Premier League upheld two. The contents of the other seven complaints were denied and are not available to the public.

Sean Dyche’s side could face another separate punishment for a different breach of PSR rules – with that hearing expected before the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Wyness told Football Insider: “I think the club will err on the side of accepting the appeal verdict and moving forward.

“But we may not be finished yet.

“With the fact that we have a second case coming up with a potential second sanction, there may well be points that the club want to clarify and fight again with the Premier League.

“That seems the only way to avoid a second sanction.

“To admit that they’ve made two pretty big errors on major things – it’s not good for the Premier League.

“Certainly the time this process has taken, as I’ve said on several occasions, is particularly disappointing.

“Until we know more about the details of the appeal, I can’t say just how good this outcome is.

“We need full transparency and it has been desperately lacking. It’s not really good enough.”
