Southampton manager Russell Martin defended Gavin Bazunu against criticism from fans following their 2-1 defeat to Hull City. The loss, Southampton’s first at home in five months, saw them concede early goals to Anass Zaroury and Fabio Carvalho. Despite Joe Aribo pulling one back late, Southampton couldn’t salvage a draw.

Martin acknowledged the frustration among fans but praised their support in the second half. He criticized his team’s lack of bravery and response to Hull’s aggressive play, emphasizing the need to be more courageous on the ball.

Reflecting on the match, Martin admitted the first half was poor but praised the second-half performance. He singled out Aribo, Jan Bednarek, and Bazunu for their efforts but lamented missed opportunities and defensive lapses that led to Hull’s goals. Southampton currently sits fourth in the Championship, 11 points behind leaders Leicester.
