Leeds United face Leicester City on Friday in arguably the biggest game of the Championship season so far.

The Whites enter the game nine points behind the Championship leaders but could blow the race wide open with a win, and leave Leicester looking over their shoulders for the first time this season.

Leicester were beaten 2-1 by Middlesbrough last weekend on the same day Leeds extended their winning run to eight matches, and defender Wout Faes was asked about what that means heading into this game.

Leeds got the better of the Foxes in the return match back in early November and still remain unbeaten at Elland Road this season, which should make for an enthralling contest between the two teams.

Speaking to the BBC after Saturday’s loss to Boro, Faes is predicting an ‘amazing game’ and admits Leicester will have extra incentive for three points after defeat last time out.

Faes predicts ‘amazing’ Leeds clash

He said: “You will get that, for sure – but I think we have to focus on ourselves. I think we have been doing amazingly, we are having an amazing season, we win a lot. If we keep doing a good job, we won’t have to look backwards and I think that’s the main aim.

“We’ve got a week to prepare now [to face Leeds United], so I think we will know exactly how to do it and how to approach the game. It’s going to be an amazing game and I will look forward to it.

“We have a very big game and we are winning, winning, winning. If we lose one, then obviously we want to change it and get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

“Even if we had won or drawn against Middlesbrough, we would go with the same intensity, but now it makes maybe 1% extra to get the result there [at Elland Road] and get the three points.”

If Leeds, or either of the two sides in the chasing pack harness any hopes of catching Leicester, then nothing other than three points will do for Daniel Farke’s side.

Jeff Stelling mooted the possibility of Leicester been caught earlier this week but their Championship record thus far suggests defeat to Boro was very much only a minor blip.

The game between the two sides earlier in the season was full of quality and Friday night is unlikely to be any different, which should make for a big atmosphere.
