Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is close to breaking another record at the Midlands club, with his two goals against Fulham meaning he is just four goal contributions away from a huge milestone.

It’s been a memorable season for Ollie Watkins, who is one of Unai Emery’s crucial players at Aston Villa.

The Englishman is in good stead to eclipse his best-ever scoring tally in the Premier League, currently set at 15 goals which he achieved last season.

Already on 13 goals with 13 games left to play, Watkins could add more goals to his collection to help power the Villans towards a top-four finish, with another record in the 28-year-old’s sight to break.

The records that Ollie Watkins has broken at Aston Villa

Last season, the England international wrote himself into his club’s history by becoming the first Villa player to score in five consecutive Premier League games.

This term, Watkins hit the 50 Premier League goals milestone, becoming only the third Villan to reach such achievement, with his sights set on further glory.

Speaking to the club’s media team after netting his 50th goal, the striker admitted that he is gunning for Gabby Agbonlahor’s club record in the top flight.

“When I signed my new contract, that was one of my main goals – to break that, to win something with the club, to push on and try to achieve something.”

With 74 Premier League goals, Agbonlahor is Villa’s top-scorer, leaving Watkins now only 21 goals away from equalling the Midlands veteran’s record, although he is far closer to yet another milestone.

Ollie Watkins closing in on Dwight Yorke’s record at Aston Villa

In the 1995/96 Premier League season, Dwight Yorke wrote himself into Aston Villa’s history books for registering the most goal involvements in a single campaign.

Now, Watkins is closing in on Yorke’s record of 27 contributions, requiring just four more to equal the Trinidadian’s tally that has stood for 28 years.

Currently on 23 contributions, 13 goals and 10 assists, Watkins requires four direct contributions to a goal from Villa’s 13 remaining games of the season, putting him in a good position to break the long-standing record.

Not only has Emery’s talisman dominated the leaderboards at Villa this season, but his achievements have put him among some of the best in Europe.

Watkins, an England player, has become the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to reach 10+ goals and 10+ assists in the Premier League this season. Under Emery’s guidance, Watkins has improved his form and development as a player, focusing on maturing his game, understanding, and being more clinical.

He recorded his highest conversion rate in the Premier League last campaign with 17%. Although it remains to be seen if Watkins will continue to contribute to Villa’s history, the signs are promising for the 28-year-old.
