After Celtic’s defeat at Parkhead against Kilmarnock yesterday, they dropped the ball once more in the Scottish Premiership championship contest.

Anthony Ralston’s precise cross found Kyogo Furuhashi unmarked in a crowded box, opening the score for the Bhoys in minute thirty-two.

However, in a story that is all too familiar, Brendan Rodgers’ team was unable to build on their lead and started to lose ground as the second half went on.

With a late header from David Watson, the visitors kept up their progress in the closing minutes of the match and kept the league leaders from winning all three points.

Rangers can go ahead by two points if they can defeat St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, but Celtic are currently leading the table by one point as of this writing.

The Bhoys’ next task is to travel to Motherwell in a week, and they won’t have any room for error in their attempt to return to winning ways.

Brendan Rodgers isn’t ‘surprised’ by Celtic result

Celtic fans have been left short-changed this season, and some made their feelings known at full-time after yet another substandard performance.

Putting forward a summary of events at Parkhead, Rodgers has opined that he isn’t entirely ‘surprised’ by his side’s inability to kill off Kilmarnock, which led to the Ayrshire side leaving with a point on the day.

Rodgers said [Cited via The Daily Record]: “It has happened too many times over the course of this season. We play well in spells, don’t take our chances and then anxiety creeps in.

“But you have to be able to deal with that pressure. We’ve had enough mishaps throughout the season, so I’m not surprised, if I’m honest.

“It was the same at Kilmarnock before when we were ahead in the game, got pegged back and ended up losing. There’s been others where we haven’t been able to produce a level of performance.

“So I can’t say I’m surprised, that’s my honest answer. I was looking to get through the game off the back of a performance that wasn’t great. But we couldn’t see it through.

Rodgers worrying comments on Celtic…

Since we’ve seen the same film multiple times this season as fans, Rodgers’ candid remarks about the outcome don’t make for compelling reading.

After failing to demonstrate the necessary resolve in a game where three points were crucial, Celtic has now dropped points for the seventh time this season.

Granted, between now and May, there are still 36 points up for grabs. Still, the Bhoys need to get over their fears quickly or else they run the risk of failing to win a league trophy for the third time in a row.

Next week, Fir Park would be a nice place to start, and maybe improved performance will win back some supporters’ trust.
