Everton fans could now be dealt even more heartache, with the latest emerging from one reporter predicting further turmoil.

These last few months have been some of the toughest in the club’s history, as not only have they had to contend with battling relegation amidst a poor run of form, but also off the pitch there has been little respite either.

It has been relentless, and this fanbase has been dragged around for fun by institutions way above them. It marks a searing indictment of where modern football is at nowadays, and how the supporters who built the game up are now nothing more than pawns to these mega-rich executives.

Well, that could be a point soon reinforced further, with talkSPORT’s Alex Crook predicting the worst for the Toffees as they await their appeal outcome.

What talkSPORT’s Alex Crook said about Everton’s appeal

With Sky Sports suggesting the verdict would be released within the next 48 hours just yesterday, fans have sharpened up.

After all, this is crunch time, and their months of protesting and willing those at the club on will finally come to a conclusion.

But, Crook has sought to both express his sympathies whilst also outlining the worst-case scenario for the club, noting live on talkSPORT (19/02, 7:15 am): ‘They’ve not won you know since December 16th, they had an initial upturn when they were first hit with a ten-point penalty and there was this sort of siege mentality, that very quickly has worn off.

‘As you say we’re anticipating the verdict of the independent panel in terms of their appeal of the ten-point penalty, I don’t think it’d happen today on a match day, certainly Everton haven’t been given any notice that that’s the case. But it should happen by the end of the week.

‘And the reason this is so important, if they do manage to get that points penalty reduced, not only could it help their league position, it would help them with their second charge they’ve been hit with by the Premier League.

‘If they lose the appeal, and I think there’s every chance they get more points taken away, then I think a first relegation in what, 73 years, becomes a real possibility, so huge days ahead for Everton.

‘But I do feel sympathy for them as there seems to be a lack of clarity and a lack of communication from the Premier League and the independent panel. Why can’t they just give them a date on when the review decision will be made? Because this affects a lot of people’s lives, not just the players, the manager, but more importantly the supporters, who have invested so much in their football club. I think it’s very unfair on them.’

Everton set for another deduction nightmare

Given how poorly-received the first ten-point deduction was by the fanbase, another one in the same season might send the club into a full-blown meltdown.

The protestations of such a harsh and landmark ruling would be legendary, and the Premier League would truly have forged an enemy for the ages.

After all, this is a fanbase never likely to shy away from fighting for what is right.

Just the mere process of appealing their first deduction has been an exhausting one, dominating the discourse of everyday match-going fans.

No longer is the football an escape for the working class. It is an unrelenting financial nightmare.

And that is only cemented by this latest suggestion, which could condemn Everton to the drop for the first time since the 1950s.
