Marc Guehi’s poise was praised by England manager Gareth Southgate after the Crystal Palace defender began Saturday’s 1-1 Euro 2024 qualifying tie with Ukraine.
In Poland’s Wroclaw, the 23-year-old was participating in his seventh senior Three Lions match.
Oleksandr Zinchenko, a versatile Arsenal defender, gave Ukraine the lead in the 26th minute, but Kyle Walker tied the score just before halftime to give England a point.
The team led by Southgate leads Group C by six points.
The former Palace defender Southgate added, “That’s a really great test for a young center-back in one of his first qualifying games for us.”
“I believed he handled it pretty well. He never gave the impression that he was hurried, and his positioning was sound. Therefore, I’m happy with what he accomplished.
