West Ham stars Edson Alvarez and Emerson sent a message to ex-teammate Pablo Fornals after he grabbed his first goal for Real Betis on Friday (9 February).

The Hammers announced the departure (2 February) of the Spaniard as he reunited with Manuel Pellegrini who brought him in at the London Stadium back in 2019.

Fornals left the club in dramatic fashion after a deal was set to go through on transfer deadline day but was delayed after a “computer problem” on the Hammers’ side before Betis complained to FIFA and completed it a few days later after last-minute approval.

And the 27-year-old has taken no time at all to bed into his new surroundings in La Liga grabbing his first goal for the club in his second appearance as Betis triumphed in a 2-0 win over Cadiz on Friday (9 February).

Fornals took to his Instagram account (9 February) to celebrate scoring his first goal and received praise from his former teammates Alvarez and Emerson on social media with the former writing: “Bravo brother.”

Both Emerson and Divin Mubama sent Fornals emoji messages.

Fornals impact at London Stadium still strong despite exit

Fornals was clearly a hugely popular member of the United dressing room after his work ethic and telling influence in their Europa Conference League success last year, but unfortunately, his performances had dropped off.

The fee the Irons landed was next to nothing and has left David Moyes incredibly light in attack when also factoring in Said Benrahma’s loan move to Lyon.

Supporters can look back fondly on Fornals’ part in the run to Europa Conference League success last time out and some stunning individual goals including the one at Bournemouth last season.

It’s clear his former teammates certainly remember those memories very fondly and his character has also left an imprint at East London but it was necessary for him to move on after things became rather stagnant.

West Ham United

West Ham players send their congratulations to Fornals after his first Betis goal.

Betis is the perfect move to reignite his career again in La Liga after limited minutes under Moyes this season and it will be intriguing to see how the Irons fare without him.
