Arsenal and Chelsea are apparently interested in Amadou Onana, but La Liga winners Barcelona have reportedly reached out to him and placed a price cap.

Barcelona is reportedly interested in Amadou Onana, according to a report by the Spanish publication SPORT. Around €60 million will be spent on the Everton midfield player during the summer transfer window. However, the defending La Liga winners are only prepared to pay €40 million to have him on staff. Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in signing him in the interim.

The Story of Amadou Onana

From signing Everton from LOSC Lille in August 2022, Amadou Onana has established himself as one of the top young midfielders in the Premier League. The 22-year-old, a native of Dakar, was raised in Belgium and Germany and has selected the former as his national team.

The Belgian international has played nine games for the Red Devils since making his debut in 2022. Onana, meanwhile, has made 59 appearances for Everton and has contributed three assists and three goals. The child’s development has not gone unnoticed, drawing interest from a number of prestigious teams, including Barcelona, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

A Man in Demand

It makes sense that Barcelona is interested in Amadou Onana given that they are looking for a holding midfielder to take over for Sergio Busquets in the long run. Thus, the Everton midfielder has become a realistic target. Additionally, the Catalan giants have made touch regarding a deal for the youthful midfield player. However, they are apprehensive to part with more than €40 million to hire him.

Regarding Arsenal, the Gunners are searching for a midfield player due to concerns about Thomas Partey’s future. Despite his excellent achievements, the Ghanaian international has been a liability because of his history of injuries. Therefore, the North London club needs to find a replacement for him, and Onana is a viable choice.

Amadou Onana is a mystery to Chelsea, though, given that they signed a number of midfielders during the summer transfer window. Since the midfield group does not require any more recruits, Onana may be overlooked at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal and Chelsea are able to fulfill Everton’s assessment of Onana by paying €60 million. Therefore, unless Barcelona can raise the money instead of the price cap they have established, they may be losing this battle.
