Nottingham Forest will discover their points deduction fate in April after FFP charge last month

Nottingham Forest could face catastrophe if deducted points in April with no relegation clauses in the contracts of their players, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke insisted Forest could have a “massive problem on their hands”.

Nottingham Forest were charged with breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules in January after losing more than the permitted £61million over the last three seasons to the 2022-23 campaign.

It is believed the Midlands club will learn their fate in April, alongside Everton – who were charged with a similar breach.

Forest are already in a relegation battle this term and sit 16th in the table, just two points above the drop zone.

The City Ground club have already changed manager, bringing in Nuno Espirito Santo to replace Steve Cooper.

Nuno has managed two wins from six Premier League games since taking the hot seat in December.

Relegation will have catastrophic consequences for Forest – who face having to offload players on Premier League wages while in the second tier.

The Midlands club were only promoted two years ago and finished 16th in the table last season – their first in the top-flight since 1998-99.

Forest are next in action against Newcastle on Saturday (10 February).

They were active in the January window despite the uncertainty surrounding their financial situation – bringing Matz Sels, Giovanni Reyna and Rodrigo Riberio to the club.

According to FBRef, the club’s top earner is currently Divock Origi (£120,000-a-week).
