According to Football Insider, Arsenal is “keen” to sign Everton striker Amadou Onana during the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to rumors, the Gunners intend to continue Mikel Arteta’s rebuilding of the team by fortifying a number of squad positions during the off-season. Their main goal is supposedly to sign a new striker, but Mikel Arteta also seems to be interested in putting extra firepower in the engine room.

Onana has been regarded as a realistic alternative among the several midfield players who have recently been linked to a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal is ‘eager’ to buy Onana, according to the Football Insider source, and they may try to do so during the next transfer window. But according to the article, Arteta has other names on his wish list, so the Belgian isn’t the only midfield option Arsenal is looking at right now.

Everton may demand at least £60 million to let their best player to depart next summer, according to rumors. But according to Football Insider, Everton’s top-flight position is in jeopardy for the upcoming campaign. If they fail to remain up, Arsenal may be able to acquire the midfield player for a notably lower price.

But, the report says that Newcastle United are also interested in signing the midfielder and they are already looking to accelerate their efforts to acquire his service. So, Arsenal are set to face tough competition from the Magpies in getting any potential deal done for the midfielder.

This season, Onana has shown promise while playing for Everton. Being able to play both the holding midfield position and the box-to-box role shows that he is a versatile player.

The 6′ 5″ midfielder is powerful, agile, and skilled in the air. He also makes effective defensive contributions. He has an eye for long-range passes.

If Arsenal were to acquire Onana, they would be making a wise move as he is a gifted player. But I don’t think the midfielder has the technical skill or poise with the ball at his feet to operate in Arteta’s possession-based style of football as a deep-lying playmaker.

Therefore, it may not be the best idea for Arsenal to sign Onana, and they would be better off looking at other options to strengthen their engine room. It would be intriguing to watch, though, if the North London team decides to take serious action and try to sign the young player during the next transfer window.
