Marseille’s Europa League roster does not include Pape Gueye, as Burnley, a struggling Premier League team, now has the option to bring him to England for free during the summer transfer window.

During the January transfer window, the formidable midfielder was connected to Vincent Kompany’s Clarets team. Furthermore, a purchase that would have cost them £15 million last month can turn out to be unnecessary in the future.

Pape Gueye’s contract expires in July, after all.

And, after irritating the Marseille bosses with his reluctance to sign fresh terms, Gueye has now been frozen out of Gennaro Gattuso’s squad for the remainder of the Europa League campaign.

Next week, L’OM will play the formidable Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine. Even after returning from Senegal’s African Cup of Nations duty, Gueye will not be on Gattuso’s roster (Get France Football News).

Pablo Longoria, the president of Marseille, however, did not hide the fact that Gueye was free to depart during the winter market. According to BBC Sport, Burnley is apparently interested in a man who signed a contract to join Watford in 2020 but quit the team a few months later after receiving numerous accusations and recriminations.

According to Longoria, “the player is on the market” with RMC Sport. “We’re trying to find the best answer that benefits everyone.

This season, we suggested offering extensions. December was when the second (offer) appeared. The participant did not respond.

“We gave ourselves a deadline to think about it, January 6 or 7, and we did not receive a response.”

New signings make immediate impact

Burnley, despite failing to get a deal done for Gueye, did sign three new players before the February deadline. They all played their part, too, as the relegation-threatened Clarets came from 2-0 down to claim a potentially valuable draw against Fulham last time out.

Coming off the bench, Maxime Esteve looked like an instant improvement over Kompany’s other central defensive alternatives, while fellow Ligue 1 import Lorenz Assignon provided an assist on half of David Datro Fofana’s debut brace.
