Liam Rosenior’s side signed six players in total, including Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho on loan, Anass Zaroury on loan from Burnley and Ryan Giles on loan from Luton Town. They also brought in experienced EFL goalscorer Billy Sharp for free.

Hull’s six additions was the joint-second most signings in the Championship after Blackburn Rovers and they join an already talented squad at the MKM Stadium.

Millwall did not make as many signings but were also busy with the eye-catching loan deals for Japhet Tanganga and Michael Obafemi, both who arrive from Premier League clubs. They also signed winger Adam Mayor from Morecambe permanently.

Reporters asked Edwards if he was “envious” of Hull’s resources after the game.

The Lions boss said: “I don’t know if ‘envious’ is the word. I’m please with our squad. I know what we are in budgetary terms and how much we’re going to spend on players and what we’re going to do in windows.

“I knew what it would be when I took the job. We work within our means and [the club] is well run. But you have to acknowledge it when teams in the same division are as active as Hull are and bring players in of that quality. It’s difficult.

“The game ended up looking fairly even. At the end of the day, Hull had spells were they looked level above – at times. The bottom line is the result has been decided by one goal which was fantastic individual execution to hit the bar [from Zaroury and then again the finish from [Jaden] Philogene. Other than that it ended up a pretty even game by the final whistle.”
