Simon Jordan has accused West Ham United supporters of having a “sense of entitlement” while sharing his verdict on recent calls for David Moyes’ sacking at the London Stadium.

During the Irons 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, a section of supporters in the away end at Bramall Lane made their feelings known to the Hammers boss, with chants of ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ being heard inside the ground.

A number of supporters have voiced their frustration with Moyes’ style of play, but Jordan has admitted that if he were in David Sullivan’s shoes at the London Stadium, he would be “irritated” by the fans’ recent reactions.

Writing for the Daily Mail on Thursday (25 January) he said: “A section of West Ham fans are not having David Moyes. They don’t like his style of play, they think he’s boring and too slow to make changes.

“Moyes won the club their first trophy for 43 years last season, is still in the Europa League and the club are sixth in the Premier League table, yet some fans are unhappy. If I was in owner David Sullivan’s position and believed in Moyes, I would be slightly irritated.

“Fans seemingly want it all and have a sense of entitlement. They want a side who compete at the top of the league and compete in a way that engages and entrances.

“That is what football has created for itself. If you make it an entertainment business — which is what it is now — you’ve got to give fans what they want.”

Two sides to the argument

As always, the truth lies slightly in the middle of this argument. Yes, Moyes does take too long to make changes in games and often his style of play is slow and hard to break down, but he is one of the most successful West Ham managers in recent memory.

The Scotsman has managed to lift a European trophy and has kept the Irons in a competitive position at the top of the table this season while also helping them into the Europa League knockout stages.

With the attacking talent at his disposal, he could play a more exciting and expansive brand of football, but would that get the same results? It may well bring an end to his success in East London.

Moyes’ performances don’t deserve to get him the sack, but should supporters continue to be frustrated by his side’s defensive style, the board at the London Stadium may have a decision to make come the end of the campaign.
