Following a brief winter break and our stunning victory at Loftus Road against QPR in the FA Cup 3rd Round, the Cherries will return to Premier League action on Sunday at 4.30 p.m. at Dean Court. Liverpool is our opponent, and the match is broadcast live on Sky. At Dean Court, our team will be aiming for a league-high hat-trick of victories over Liverpool. Given Liverpool’s current form and thirteen games without a loss in the league, it won’t be simple. We might be in for an exciting and entertaining football match because our team is now playing “Iraola” football.

Last season was Jurgen Klopp’s lowest points total in all the full seasons as their manager, finishing in 5th place with 67 points. When Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015, Liverpool were in 10th position after eight games with 12 points, this was after the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool which finished in a 1-1 draw, Rodgers was sacked an hour after the game. Liverpool finished the season in 8th place with 60 points.

In the 2016-17 season, Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge, Liverpool finished in 4th place with 76 points. In the 2017-18 season, they also finished in 4th place with one point less and 75 points. 2018-19 was Klopp’s best season to date and they finished in 2nd place with 97 points, one point less than the Champions Manchester City. 2019-20 was to be Jurgen Klopp’s best season, finishing as Champions with 99 points, eighteen more points than second place Manchester City. 2020-21 Liverpool finished in 3rd place with 69 points, Manchester City were Champions with 86 points, the lowest total since Leicester City won the title with 81 points in 2015-16, the season Klopp joined Liverpool. In the 2021-22 season, Liverpool finished in 2nd place with 92 points, one point again behind Champions Manchester City, as they did in the 2018-19 season.

This season Liverpool are having a good season, head of the Premier League table after 20 games with 45 points. At the start of the season, they continued their eleven-game unbeaten run from last season to nineteen, until that run came to an end in North London against Spurs. The run included 14 wins and 3 draws. Seven of the wins were this season, the first was Liverpool’s game against AFCB at Anfield.

On their travels since our game, Liverpool have beaten Newcastle 1-2, Wolves 1-3, Sheffield United 0-2, Crystal Palace 1-2 and Burnley 0-2. They drew 2-2 at Brighton, 1-1 with Luton Town and 1-1 with Manchester City. They have only lost one game and that was 2-1 against Spurs (mentioned above), which ended their long unbeaten run. At home, they have beaten AFCB, Aston Villa, West Ham, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Fulham, and Newcastle United. Drawn with Manchester United and Arsenal.

The last time our two sides met at Dean Court was in March last season. There was only one goal in the game and that was scored in the first half by Philip Billing for the Cherries. In the second half, Liverpool were awarded a penalty, Mo Salah hit it wide and AFCB won 1-0. That was also our second win against Liverpool, the first being that memorable 4-3 Premier League game in the 2016-17 season.

AFCB has won 2, drawn 0 and lost 4 of our home league games against Liverpool.
In every tournament, AFCB has a W 2, D 3, L 16 record.
