Current Leicester City transfer rumors: Sheffield United is rumored to be interested in goalkeeper Danny Ward during the January transfer window.

Ahead of a possible deal, Sheffield United is said to have “asked” about Danny Ward, the goalkeeper for Leicester City.

The Premier League team has previously been linked to an unexpected bid for Leicester icon Kasper Schmeichel and is apparently searching for a stopper during the current transfer window. The Blades, who now seem to have focused on Ward, might find a move for Schmeichel to be too costly.

They are “keen” to keep Ward on loan through the rest of the season, according to The Sun. They claim that although Leicester would rather sell, a loan with an option to buy would “close the deal.”

Cardiff City, a championship opponent, is reportedly interested in signing Ward to a loan agreement and will take action if his proposed transfer to Sheffield United falls through.

Leicester have already offloaded one goalkeeper on loan this month. Daniel Iversen joined Stoke this week until the end of the season, freeing up a space in the squad.

But there are still four senior goalkeepers on the books in Mads Hermansen, Jakub Stolarczyk, Alex Smithies and Ward. Smithies, however, has not been registered in the 25-man Championship squad.

This season, Ward has not yet made an appearance for Leicester. He did not make the team for any of the previous four Championship matchdays, but he did sit on the bench for Saturday’s FA Cup victory over Millwall.
