News from the bet365 Stadium as Stoke City right-back Junior Tchamadeu joins up with Cameroon squad for African Cup of Nations

Junior Tchamadeu’s Stoke City manager is hoping he can continue his form at the African Cup of Nations, therefore he is joining the Cameroon squad today.

The 20-year-old right-back, who Alex Neil brought in on deadline day, has emerged at Stoke in the past few games, starting one under interim manager Paul Gallagher, making an impact as a substitute in Steven Schumacher’s debut, and wearing a jersey in the next three.

Strong raiding runs down the right have shown him flashes of his ability, and Schumacher is hoping that this fresh experience will be helpful to his growth.

“Absolutely,” said Schumacher. “I’m sure it will be. I hope he does well. I hope he gets some minutes and plays games because it would be good to keep him in a flow.

Although he has started the previous few games, he hasn’t played a lot of football this season. Keeping him in rhythm will help him perform successfully and return to us securely.

On Monday, January 15, Cameroon kicks off their campaign against Guinea. They also play group matches against Senegal on January 19 and the Gambia on January 23. The competition is open through February 11th.

This implies that Tchamadeu will miss the FA Cup matchup with Brighton as well as at least two Championship games—at home against Rotherham and away against Birmingham. Should Cameroon advance all the way, he might also miss three more.
