Despite not winning a game this season, Everton’s ‘fantastic’ player is now up for a Premier League award.

The Premier League has identified the Everton goalkeeper as one of six nominees for his outstanding save against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

Pickford had struggled to make an impression this season, surrendering eight goals in four games. The goalie also handed up a penalty during Aston Villa’s 4-0 hammering before scoring an unlucky own goal against Sheffield United.

Pickford, on the other hand, has made some outstanding saves for his team, most notably the acrobatic palm he used against Wolves. If his magnificent double save against Sheffield United two days earlier, the 29-year-old could have easily received two nominations.

Jordan Pickford has impressed for Everton after a difficult start.

Despite surrendering a lot of goals in the first month of the season, Sean Dyche lauded the England international. “I think like everyone, he had some question marks recently because the team was conceding big moments, but I think it shows again what a top keeper he is,” he remarked after the draw with the Blades.

“I thought his overall performance was excellent.” He was certainly unlucky with their second [which struck the post and went in via his back]. And he makes two spectacular saves towards the end when it matters the most.”

Pickford’s save against Wolves hasn’t received quite as much praise however, with the main focus being on the Toffees’ failure to claim any points on home soil.

However, the ‘keeper will be glad if he can add the award to his collection as he looks to kick on this season.

Pickford faces very tough competition for the award though. The former Sunderland man is up against Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario (vs Manchester United), Wolves’ Jose Sa (vs Everton), Brentford’s Mark Flekken (vs Crystal Palace), West Ham’s Alphonse Areola (vs Brighton) and Liverpool’s Alisson (vs Newcastle).
