Less than a year after David Moyes was appointed manager of Manchester United in 2013, he was fired.

Erik ten Hag’s team, Manchester United, has suffered humiliation as a result of a comment from former manager David Moyes returning to haunt him. The Dutchman’s second season at Old Trafford has been a terrible one for the Red Devils, who have now dropped seven Premier League games.

Before their encounter on Saturday against Bournemouth, United had been enjoying a little respite in their fortunes, having won four of their previous five Premier League games. However, they were dragged back to reality when they whimpered to a 3-0 loss to the Cherries at Old Trafford.

United now trails leaders Liverpool by 10 points and has suffered more losses than any other team in the top 10. Furthermore, it has taken ten years for their sudden decline from favor.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United won 13 trophies and was once the dominant team in the Premier League. However, the giants of the North West have repeatedly failed since his retirement in 2013.

Moyes took Ferguson’s position as the Old Trafford head coach as the Red Devils tried to usher in a new era. However, the former Everton manager found it difficult to have an influence in Manchester as his team fell 12 points short of leaders Arsenal at the beginning of December.

After United lost 1-0 to Everton and Newcastle in back-to-back games, Moyes talked to media on December 9. And while the administrators of the Red Devils X (formerly Twitter) account said, “David Moyes says #mufc must improve in a number of areas, including passing, creating chances, and defending,” they underlined the Scot’s worries.

Moyes failed to find solutions and was dismissed in April, marking the start of a trend among his successors. Louis van Gaal secured an FA Cup before departing, followed by Jose Mourinho who added a Europa League and League Cup to the club’s honors. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failed to secure silverware, with Erik ten Hag winning another League Cup last season. However, barring the current manager, all others faced eventual dismissal.

Despite significant investments in star players, United struggled in the league and Champions League, finishing outside the top four five times in the past decade. Cup victories failed to appease fans, and patience wears thin at Old Trafford. Ten Hag’s team appears no better than Moyes’ from a decade ago, evident in home defeats against Brighton, Crystal Palace, and Bournemouth this season, highlighting the club’s lack of clear direction. If club decision-makers decide they’ve had enough, Ten Hag may follow in the footsteps of his predecessors.
