Newcastle United transfers: The Magpies have been linked with a shock move for a former Manchester United goalkeeper.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has been linked with a stunning move to Newcastle United. De Gea is presently without a club after leaving Old Trafford at the end of last season – and has been linked with a surprise move to St James’ Park with Nick Pope due to be sidelined for a prolonged period of time.

Pope dislocated his shoulder during Newcastle’s win over Erik ten Hag’s side on Saturday night and is expected to be out for five months, putting the Three Lions star out for the majority of the season. Martin Dubravka, who was on loan at Old Trafford for the opening half of last season, will remain Newcastle’s first-choice goalie for the foreseeable future.

Despite this, the 33-year-old spent twelve years at Manchester United and might be persuaded back to England and the Premier League if Newcastle United makes an offer. During his time at United, De Gea recorded 148 Premier League clean sheets while also winning the FA Cup, Premier League, and two League Cups, including last year’s Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, the Magpies will have to adjust to life without Pope, with games in the league, cup, and European tournaments coming thick and fast.
