Dan Neil talks about the value of Patrick Roberts and Jack Clarke at Sunderland.

Dan Neil has given Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts of Sunderland credit for their achievements off the field as well as on it.

With nine Championship goals this season from the right side, 22-year-old Clarke leads the Black Cats in scoring. Last season, he scored the same amount of goals in the league. Despite not having scored a goal yet this season, 26-year-old Roberts, who recently inked a new contract with Wearside, is still a vital member of Tony Mowbray’s team on the opposing wing.

When asked about Sunderland’s two wide players, Neil responded, “They are our outlets.” “You probably saw it last year when a lot of it went down Pat’s side since we had Amad as well. We want to get the ball to them as often as possible.

“I think it’s been shared a lot better this year, and Pat and Clarkey have been outstanding as always. I always support them to get past full-backs the more we can get them on the ball and figure out how to go one-on-one with them. Because of this, I try to score a goal by entering the box rather than supporting Pat half the time. They are both excellent guys and utterly outstanding.

Additionally, Mowbray has mentioned how vocal and unafraid to express their thoughts, Clarke and Roberts are among the Sunderland team members. Neil continued, “They are really nice lads, but they are definitely opinionated.”

“Those two are like best friends.” There are jokers all around, and to be honest, everyone on the team gets along great, including the new arrivals who are foreign males. In the changing room, there isn’t always a divide, although occasionally there might be. We’re all about the same age, so I believe the reason is because we’re eager to play at this level and advance. It is, in my opinion, the reason for the squad’s excellent synergy.

After defeating Birmingham 3-1 last time out, Sunderland returned to sixth place in the Championship and are getting ready for this weekend’s trip to Plymouth.
