The Nigeria Football Federation has not yet announced the squad for their forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, but Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively confirm that Wilfred Ndidi, a midfielder for Leicester City, has withdrawn from the team.

The Nath Boys product is currently the fourth player—Zaidu Sanusi (Porto), Victor Osimhen (Napoli), and Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan)—in the Super Eagles’ ideal starting lineup who is not eligible to play in the back-to-back World Cup qualifiers.

While Sanusi, the left-back for Porto, is recovering from a muscular injury, Osimhen and Chukwueze are dealing with hamstring problems they received during this month’s Super Eagles training camp in Portugal.

Prior to Leicester City’s match against Sunderland, Ndidi underwent a scan. The Foxes medical staff recommended that he take it easy until a thorough and in-depth study was completed.

Ultimately, the Leicester City doctors informed the Super Eagles number four that he would require many weeks of recovery, including during the November 2023 FIFA window, so excluding him from the World Cup qualifying matches.

Nidid is also anticipated to miss Leicester City’s next two Championship games, which are against Middlesbrough on November 11 and Leeds United on November 3. Nidid has already missed back-to-back games against Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland.

Midfielders Joe Aribo, Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru received call-ups for the October internationals from Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro.

Alhassan Yusuf, a midfield player for Antwerp, is being watched by the Portuguese football coach, who plans to give the player his debut next month.
