According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers directors are trying to hire Sam Jewell as the club’s new director of football.

The tabloid reported on its website on Saturday (14 October) that the Gers are seeking to lure the Brighton head of recruiting to Ibrox after he was instrumental in the Premier League club’s signings of Moises Caicedo and Carlos Baleba.

It went on to say that the 34-year-old, nicknamed a “starfinder,” could be enticed to join the Light Blues if the role is backed up by a budget that can “turn around the fortunes” of the club now that Philippe Clement has been named manager.

If Rangers can persuade Jewell to relocate to Ibrox, it will be a clear statement that they are no longer playing around with recruitment. He is well-liked at Brighton and other Premier League clubs, having previously turned down offers to stay at the Amex Stadium.

Following Michael Beale’s freedom to sign the players he desired over the summer, it appears that the club is now aiming to take a more forward-thinking strategy. According to the newspaper, Jewell would be the “ideal replacement” for Ross Wilson, who left the Gers to join Nottingham Forest in April.

It comes after Clement signed a contract to become the new Light Blues manager, beating over Kevin Muscat in the final interviews over the past few days.
