After having a difficult weekend in Croatia’s 2-1 loss to Wales in a European Championship qualification, Rangers left-back Borna Barisic is receiving criticism.

The situation in Croatia’s garden was much brighter just one month prior. Borna Barisic, a player for Rangers, provided an assist in a 5-0 thrashing of Latvia before shining in another triumph over Armenia. His connections with Ivan Perisic and Josko Gvardiol led one former Croatian great to declare Zlatko Dalic’s left-hand flank the “best in Europe.”

Four weeks later, consecutive losses to Wales and Turkey have prompted a very different response to Barisic’s performance. After a Harry Wilson masterclass in Cardiff, Croatia dropped to third place in Group D without the zip and creativity that usually define his play.

Borna Barisic struggles as Croatia lose to Wales

Ivan Pudra, a seasoned coach, said to Slobodna Dalmacija after Croatia’s defeat to Wales, “Barisic wouldn’t hypothetically play for me (if I were in charge of Croatia). Ten of the 15 passes he was given were returned to Gvardiol.

Although these two setbacks are not the end of the world, everyone must take this seriously.

Barisic was arrested in the capital of Wales before the hour. Prior to his early substitution, a player known for his accurate left-side passes managed just one cross in 59 minutes (WhoScored).

Ridvan Yilmaz, who joined from Turkish powerhouses Besiktas a year and a half ago, is posing a rising threat to Barisic for his starting spot at the club level as well.

Rangers future uncertain

While Barisic, who is already past the age of 30 and will be a free agent in less than a year, was not looked to move on by Rangers over the summer, Rangers great Kris Boyd has been left wondering why.

After that dull 2-1 Europa League loss at Aris Limassol, Boyd informed the Scottish Sun, “Barisic struggled again.”

You may be wondering why Rangers declined a bid for him despite recent window interest.

He is comfortable because he is aware that the new additions won’t be able to handle it, like many of the veteran players.
