Ronnie Edwards, a defender for Peterborough United, was allegedly on Newcastle’s radar during the summer transfer window. They have now been informed of the asking price for him.

A number of Premier League teams are keeping an eye on the 20-year-old in League One, and it was disclosed in August that Newcastle had sent scouts to see him.

Eddie Howe might still be interested in the center back in January if he wants to bolster his squad with youth and depth, and he might be able to get him for a good deal right now.

Edwards’ price tag revealed

The defender may be available for £6 million, according to a report from Peterborough Today, making him a potential steal given his skill.

The depth at center-back for Newcastle isn’t the best; until Dan Burn switches to the center, Jamaal Lascelles is the only other obvious choice to take the place of either Fabian Schar or Sven Botman.

Should Newcastle attempt to sign Edwards in the January transfer window, he might thus be an inexpensive investment that can provide quality and depth.

How good is Edwards?

Dan Ashworth, the sporting director, has previously given Edwards accolades and has high regard for him after scouting him while at Brighton.

“Based on the reports I received from Brighton, we are well aware of your boy. Dan Ashworth once told Peterborough Chairman Darragh MacAnthony that the center back was “a Rolls Royce of a player.”

However, Newcastle is currently focusing on the attacking side of the field. However, he added, “Barry, pure Rolls Royce.” Unbelievable scout reports on every trip to Brighton.

Despite his youth, Edwards has already made 101 appearances for Peterborough this season, playing every minute of their League One campaign while scoring once in 12 games.

Although this may have been a bit of a surprise in January, it may have been a wise move for a significant long-term gain.
