According to Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palki, who spoke to ESPN, the Ukrainian soccer team has filed a complaint with FIFA against Olympique Lyonnais over the Brazilian right winger Tetê’s (23) January loan to Leicester City.

Tetê, also known as Mateus Cardoso Lemos Martins, transferred from Donetsk to Lyon 18 months ago in accordance with FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, Annex 7. Due to the ongoing conflict between the two nations, the latter permitted foreign players in Russia or Ukraine to suspend but not cancel their contracts. On March 31st, 2022, Tetê joined Les Gones. The Brazilian later extended his deal with Lyon through 2023. Tête already had a contract with Shakhtar that was valid until 2023, claims Palki.

Following that, Leicester City paid Lyon €1 million for the loan of Tetê during the previous winter’s transfer window. Palki believed Lyon had violated Annex 7. “We belonged to the player. We have a deal with the player. It appears that they benefited unfairly at our club’s expense. Palki claims that they requested the return of the €1 million from FIFA.

The CEO of Shakhtar Donetsk adds that Tetê, who joined Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray this summer after Donetsk canceled his contract as a result of his absence, has also been the subject of a direct protest from the Ukrainian club. “According to Annex 7, the Player should have submitted us an official letter before July 1 stating ‘I would like to use Annex 7 to suspend my contract.’ Tetê failed to.
