The Hoops hierarchy want the defenders to follow the recent trend of EIGHT stars who have signed enhanced terms at the champions.

Matt O’Riley became the latest star to pledge his immediate future to the Parkhead men when he agreed a contract to keep him at the club until 2027.

The stylish midfielder, who cost a cut-price £1.5million when he arrived from English third-tier MK Dons in January last year, penned the extension on Saturday morning and, only hours later, scored the dramatic stoppage-time winner against Motherwell at Fir Park.

Reo Hatate sealed a new deal on Friday to join his Japanese countrymen Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda with contracts running until June 2027 while captain Callum McGregor and his club and country team-mate Anthony Ralston have already put pen to paper.

Former Scotland Under-21 skipper Stephen Welsh and Israeli winger Liel Abada, both unfortunately injured at the moment, have also joined the growing list of Brendan Rodgers’ aces who are committed to Scotland’s title kings.

Now Carter-Vickers and Taylor are next in line as Rodgers and the Hoops board attempt to tie down key players for the crucial seasons that lie ahead, as the Scottish Sun reported.

The USA World Cup centre-half made his switch to Parkhead permanent last summer when he agreed a £6million move from Spurs. His current deal runs until June 2026.

Scotland international left-back Taylor is also on the targeted list. His terms expire in the summer of 2025.
