As Stoke City gears up for a midweek Carabao Cup match at Bournemouth, news from Clayton Wood

Tyrese Campbell’s hamstring injury is expected to sideline him for an extended period of time, dealing Stoke City another devastating injury blow.

Campbell collided with Cyrus Christie within the first minutes of Sunday’s game against Hull. He first attempted to continue playing after receiving what appeared to be a blow to the back of the leg, but further examinations revealed the full nature of the injury, which was worse than previously thought.

The 23-year-old striker, who was also injured in the summer and was a fellow summer signing with Ryan Mmaee, who has already missed the last four games due to a hamstring ailment, might not return until after the upcoming international break. It intensifies a string of setbacks due to injuries that have dogged Stoke throughout the early stages of the season.

Wouter Burger, who felt a twinge in his hamstring against Hull, is unlikely to be risked in the Carabao Cup match at Bournemouth on Wednesday. Enda Stevens (calf) is also out. Andre Vidigal is trying to demonstrate his readiness to play in that match, but Alex Neil will have to make a judgment call after the player stumbled in the final minutes of his comeback game on Sunday, when he came off the bench to replace Campbell. While Junior Tchamadeu is cup-tied, loan goalkeeper Mark Travers is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Regarding the injuries, Neil stated, “They are all coming closer every day, but I don’t think he’ll be any time soon — and by that I mean for the next game — and Ryan Mmaee is not going to be either. Sadly, Tye Campbell will also take longer than we had anticipated. It’s a strange injury that involved his hamstring.

Emre Tezgel will return to the under-18s over the next weeks in an effort to finally catch up to speed after suffering multiple quad injuries.

Emre has probably broken down dramatically three times in the past 12 months, spending a few months out from work each time. Emre will be temporarily placed back in his own age group in order to give him some time to develop a tolerance and gradually work his way back up.

“Having such talent is useless if he is unfit. We stripped him down to start over since his body was having trouble carrying the strain. He just turned 18 last week; he will stay with the 18s for the upcoming weeks, and when he’s ready, we’ll build him back up.

Complicating matters, fellow striker Nathan Lowe, who turns 18 today, was forced to leave yesterday night’s under-21 encounter against Tottenham during the first half. However, rather than being hurt, he was feeling ill. After overcoming tonsillitis, Sol Sidibe participated in the game.
