The emotional discussions that Sean Dyche had with his Everton players prior to their much-needed and well-earned 3-1 Premier League victory over Brentford have been made public.

After a Finch Farm heart-to-heart, Sean Dyche pushed his team to alter the “story” of Everton’s season.

The Blues manager claimed that following the loss to Arsenal, time was spent dealing with matters that went beyond the playing field in an effort to accept his team’s challenging start to the season.

He emphasized to the players that he thought the overall performances had been mainly positive. In order to take charge of the campaign, he asked them to draw on the lessons they had gained during their careers, especially during challenging times at Everton.

When asked about the preparation for the Blues’ first Premier League victory of the season, a 3-1 triumph at Brentford, he said: “We did a little of work in the week with them, not just training work but a good discussion with them. A couple things come out, and you kind of start believing it to be “the Everton story” after that.

“I said it’s us who alter the narrative, so that’s it. End of. No justifications. You are all well-rounded individuals who have experience playing in the Premier League and understand how it operates. I remarked, “Ladies, it is we who alter the narrative. Let’s do it correctly. That was a start. Another was the notion of finding fulfillment in one’s work.

“It’s challenging to play well but not produce results. We’ve had plenty of difficult times in the past, and I reminded them of them when I said, “Look at all the difficult times you’ve had in the last couple of years, including the end of last season.” There, you develop. You should possess the maturity necessary to play under pressure on the field thanks to your experiences.

“I believed that was demonstrated against Brentford, that manner of playing under pressure, doing everything well… therefore it is good to me that they reinforced that with their own performance and received their own reward.

“Sometimes, you can coach all you want. At the end of the day, this was a group of people giving everything to the cause and with some quality,” the coach said.
