According to reports, Amanda Staveley and Tottenham Hotspur are getting closer to a Premier League comeback.

Earlier this year, the 51-year-old and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi left the Magpies due to emotional reasons. By her admission, she would have loved to continue, with her exit coming amid multiple off-field disappointments.

Due to a money dispute, Staveley lost her multimillion-pound fight with Greek shipping tycoon Victor Restis in April. She has also engaged in back-and-forth arguments with Mike Ashley, the former owner of Toon.

Though there’s no indication that they played a part in her decision to leave Newcastle, the Public Investment Fund and the Reuben brothers quickly acquired her 10% share, bringing it down to 6% at first before they bought her out entirely in the summer.

Staveley – who also brokered Manchester City’s takeover in 2008 – admitted this was against her will while refusing to rule out a possible return to football. She told The Athletic: “My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn’t always work out exactly how you want it to. Nothing is going to replicate that.

“I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can’t change, but I didn’t want to get in Newcastle’s way. It’s got to be about what’s best for Newcastle.
