With Everton playing again this Saturday, it appears that the international break is finally coming to a close.

There are many complaints across the nation when the Premier League ends this early in the season, and few supporters ever want to watch their club play against the national side.

So, most will be glad to see the Three Lions finish this leg of their Nations League campaign last night, allowing the players to return to their respective clubs ready to kickstart league football.

The Toffees have endured a horror start in the league, and yet even they will return raring to get back to action, with a fanbase that will be right there with them despite their current position propping up the table.

However, as is often the case with Everton, we can never just go one or two weeks without a fresh controversy.

This latest off-pitch update has only added to the unrest brewing at Goodison Park.

Alan Myers provides latest Everton takeover update

As previously reported last night, Alisher Usmanov now plans to file a lawsuit against Farhad Moshiri, the owner of Everton, naming Somelior Holdings Limited, a fully Iranian-owned business registered in Cyprus, as a defendant in a case filed by USM, his firm.

In the midst of all this turmoil, John Textor is still trying to purchase Everton in the background, so it gives the Toffees a whole new battle to deal with.

Some might question why the American remains so intent on acquiring this club when controversy seems to follow it around every corner, especially when this latest episode could potentially add to the growing hurdles in his way.

However, revered journalist Alan Myers is on hand to provide an update, indicating whether this will have any effect on the takeover.

Asked by one fan whether there has been any update on Textor’s end in the face of such controversy, he replied on X with a five-word summary: ‘I think it’s moving forward.’

Why does John Textor want to buy Everton so badly?

It is certainly worth questioning what the chief motivation behind Textor’s unflappable desire to acquire Everton is, but realistically, there are some clear upsides.

After all, this represents a chance to buy into the Premier League as a sole owner, coincidentally gaining one of England’s most revered fanbases as well as a brand-new stadium.

On the surface, suitors should be lining up to compete.

However, delving deeper the mountain of debt starts to appear on the horizon, with whoever should choose to purchase the Toffees having to deal with £600m worth of debt instantly.

But, with three clubs already within his portfolio, Everton could help Textor further expand his empire with the allure of the Premier League, increasing the exposure of all involved and thus boosting potential profits for him.

Should he succeed in creating a clever business model that generates huge revenue for him, this can only benefit the Toffees more, as they will have more money to spend.

It feels like Everton are a key part of what the American hopes to build in the near future. So, that makes any debt and further obstacles worth tackling for the potential upsides.
