During the summer transfer window, West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui finished a significant revamp of the team.

In the summer, West Ham signed nine new players under Julen Lopetegui, while twelve players left the London Stadium on a variety of loan agreements, for nominal payments, and on free transfers.

The West Ham team is definitely a better team now than before the transfer window started after the head coach’s summer business.

Even though the Hammers had a successful transfer window, there are still a few areas of Lopetegui’s squad that need more attention.

In the summer, I would have preferred it if we had signed a young attacker and a quick left-back.

Many West Ham fans agree, and that is the reason why one of Lopetegui’s summer signings has drawn so much criticism so far.

West Ham signing Luis Guilherme explained

Many Hammers supporters have questioned the sense of spending so much money on Luis Guilherme when we need needed a quick left-back and an explosive young striker.

Approximately £25.5 million was spent by West Ham during the summer transfer window to acquire Luis Guilherme.

It was one of the biggest surprise transfers of the summer for the Hammers.

However, I think it’s so obvious why Lopetegui wanted the Brazilian at the London Stadium in the summer transfer window.

Let’s not forget that the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid wanted to sign Guilherme in the summer.

West Ham did so well to win the race for the South American teenager, and Lopetegui clearly wanted to sign him now rather than wait another year when he could cost around £50 million, and quite frankly be unattainable.

We can all support the Hammers’ recruitment strategy because they were able to sign Guilherme before he became well-known.

Guilherme, a gifted young man, has enormous potential. The 18-year-old winger, in my opinion, has all the necessary components to advance and emerge as a true player’s star.

Recently, Paulo Buosi, vice president of Palmeiras, called Guilherme a “extraordinary and sensational” talent.

Guilherme is undoubtedly a very gifted young football player, but it’s also obvious that he has a rigid mindset when it comes to his work ethic and behaviour.

From what he showed during his time with Palmeiras, he has every chance of making it at the very highest level, as long as he works hard – something that I don’t doubt he will do.

The teenager is a right winger, but he can actually play anywhere along the front-line, so he should provide Lopetegui with some real tactical flexibility over the next few years.

Luis Guilherme has all of the talent and potential in the world, and his skillset, impressive pace and wicked left foot will undoubtedly thrill the West Ham fans over the next few years.
