As he approaches the last 12 months of his current contract, Emil Krafth has made comments regarding his future at Newcastle United.

After a hectic preseason, Emil Krafth, a Sweden international, had to play centre back for the majority of the summer for Eddie Howe.

Despite being a right-back by trade, Krafth has spent most of his preseason time in the middle of defence. Even if his future at Newcastle United is uncertain, he has persisted in demonstrating his adaptability.

Emil Krafth is in the final year of his Newcastle United contract

Earlier this year, Krafth agreed to a contract extension that would keep him at St. James’ Park through 2025.

However, it has been stated that Newcastle has thought of selling Krafth because he is now in the last 12 months of his contract.

That is no surprise, as it is something the club must consider with any player whose contract is winding down.

However, Krafth is eager to continue playing for Newcastle United this season and beyond

Emil Krafth addresses his Newcastle future

The 30-year-old has spoken to the Athleticabout his Newcastle United career, admitting that he would like to remain at St James’ Park for the foreseeable future.

“I’m still alive!” he said.

“I know what I’m capable of. Everyone here is a really good player and everyone wants to be a part of the team this season.

“I want to stay. I love being in Newcastle, being part of the team. I will work as hard as I can to make it happen.”

Krafth continues to be important for Newcastle

When he signed for Newcastle for £5million in 2019, there was not too much excitement. He was signed by Steve Bruce, at a time when the Magpies also had DeAndre Yedlin and Javi Manquillo. Krafth was not seen as an improvement at right-back, yet he is the only player out of that trio that is still on Tyneside.

At St. James’ Park, the Sweden international has established himself as a vital member of the squad, and Eddie Howe really values his adaptability.

After missing over a year of activity due to a devastating knee injury, Krafth has recovered admirably and is always ready to go in and do a job.

It is imperative that Newcastle holds onto Krafth this summer, even in light of rumours that he might be sold. With Kieran Trippier rumoured to be leaving Tyneside, Krafth might find himself back as the backup right back.

He might serve as Tino Livramento’s backup because it is unlikely that Newcastle will recruit a new player to replace Trippier should he go.

Additionally, Krafth ought to get an extension to his contract if he plans to stay. From a commercial standpoint, it would be foolish to let him go for nothing in the summer of 2025, even though he will never again be a consistent starter in black and white. Howe needs squad members he can trust, and Krafth provides him with just that.
