Everton have enjoyed a prosperous start to the summer window, but after a blistering June, where they effectively tied up three deals, it has gone relatively quiet.

Their involvement in the Jaden Philogene saga clearly dominated much of their thinking, and now with no winger lined up, Kevin Thelwell will have to consult his list of alternatives.

However, whilst he and Sean Dyche decide on who might be best to fill that void, the director of football is not waiting about in his quest to find other signings in other positions.

And now, one of his relatively long-term targets is reportedly keen to make the move to Merseyside.

Sean Dyche target wants to join Everton

The latest on their pursuit of one defender comes courtesy of La Gazzetta dello Sport in its print edition (13/07, page 22), and they detail Everton’s continued interest in Jackson Tchatchoua.

Describing Hellas Verona as ‘a bit like an airport’ given the frequency of both incomings and outgoings, the Cameroon star seems poised to be the next to depart, especially as the Toffees ramp up their interest.

Given one report suggested that Everton have a ‘serious’ interest in Tchatchoua, this latest one actually seeks to not only reaffirm that, but also build upon the players’ thoughts on the move.

It claims that due to all this turmoil, and likely because of the big step up the Premier League would represent, the 22-year-old actively wants to move to Goodison Park this summer.

Dyche has been chasing this man for nearly two weeks now, given that is when reports first started to emerge.

Who is Jackson Tchatchoua?

Having kickstarted his youth career with Standard Liege before eventually joining Charleroi, where he would make his senior debut, the youngster went on to amass 64 first-team appearances for the Belgian club.

Having been born in Belgium, but being of Cameroonian descent, in March 2023 he was selected to represent the latter at U23s level before making his full debut for the senior squad just one year later.

He played the full game in a World Cup qualifier, and it remains his sole international cap thus far, yet the 6 foot 1 colossus promises to amass many more.

Already a seasoned player despite his youth, a subsequent loan spell at Hellas Verona last season established his talents in one of Europe’s top five leagues, where he impressed for a side that finished quite comfortably in mid-table, mainly at right-back but at times in a more advanced role on that flank.

Now seeking to ply his trade elsewhere, with Everton the chief suitor, it will be interesting to see whether he can elevate his game again, with another step up into the Premier League.
