The former Wrexham captain had shared his verdict on the League One outfits chances of promotion and their future under actor Ryan Reynolds.

Former Wrexham captain Ben Tozer has admitted he hopes the Welsh club sees a little bit of “adversity” this season.

Wrexham secured back-to-back promotions in the 2023/24 to reach the third tier of English football, League One. The club has been on an upward trajectory in recent years thanks to American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buying the club back in 2020.

With money and publicity injected into the club, Wrexham went from a non-league club to a League One outfit in just a couple of years – with aims of even more promotions on the horizon.

Former skipper Tozer appeared on Ben Foster’s podcast, Fozcast, to discuss Wrexham’s future under the American pair and how he wants the club to have some highs and lows this season.

Fozcast co-host Tom Ochoa asked Tozer: “What do you think next season for Wrexham? Do you think there’s a genuine possibility of promotion?”

Tozer replied: “I don’t know, I think it could be possible. Yeah, there’s so many ifs and buts.”

He then went on to admit that promotion may not be the best thing for the club at this point in time, and urged Wrexham to “consolidate” what they have.

Tozer continued: “Obviously I hope they do, I hope they go up but then, I think the club – like we were saying about being aligned – I don’t think it would be the best thing for the club to go up. Being totally honest, I think consolidate for a year even for the fans expectations.

“The fans expectations are so high now, even if you’ve got like the so-called new fans that all they expect is win, win win. You kind of think they need to see a little bit of adversity. “The old fans have had all the adversities, a hell of a lot of adversity, but you need the new fans to see a little bit of adversity.”

He added: “I’m not saying like relegation battle, no chance, they’re way better than that. But I mean like pushing for play-offs. Pushing for a play-off then maybe seeing the disappointment and getting a bit more reality because it is a bit, you know, Hollywood, isn’t it?”
