One of the big transfer talking points this summer for Brighton fans will be the future of Pascal Groß.

Gross, 33, has one-year remaining on his deal this summer and has been tipped to leave this transfer window with Bundesliga clubs Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund both keen.

And Albion are awaiting the decision of their star man following contract talks. The German international is already one of the higher earners at Brighton and reportedly takes home around £65,000 per week with the Seagulls.

The midfielder, who scored the club’s first ever goal in the Premier League, certainly has one fan – new Albion boss and fellow German Fabian Hurzeler.

The former St Pauli boss was put in front of the media for the first time yesterday (July 2) and was asked about how important Groß could be for him. “I had some talks with Pascal, of course,” said Hurzeler. “He is a very important player.

“I expressed, I think, my biggest appreciation I have for him and let’s see what the future brings.”

‘I have my own philosophy’ – Fabian Hurzeler will not try to emulate Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton

Hurzeler replaced De Zerbi following the Italian’s departure at the end of the season – but the 31-year-old, who is the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history, did spend a day at Albion in December.

Hurzeler said: “I spent one day and the people were very open-minded. I had some talks with David [Weir, technical director], I had some talks with Pascal, or course.

“I always need to have a good feeling and the feeling here was amazing. I experienced amazing things here during the winter vacation, not only in Brighton but in the whole UK.

“The people were very polite, very helpful. This was my experience during the winter vacation.”

Gross is currently in action at the Euros where he has helped Germany to the quarter-finals where they face Spain on Friday (5pm kick off).
