West Ham are in the race to sign Galatasaray winger Wilfried Zaha on a cut-price deal.

According to a report from Sunday People (30 June – page 63), the Turkish champions are struggling to pay his £300,000-per-week salary, and they have decided to let him go.

The 33-times capped Ivory Coast international was signed 12 months ago on a free transfer after his deal at Crystal Palace expired.

The Eagles are also keen to get him back, while Premier League rivals Wolves are in the race for his signature.

West Ham have already made two signings, but Julen Lopetegui wants to add more players to the squad. While his immediate priority is bolstering the defence and adding a new striker, the Hammers boss could also consider signing an experienced winger.

The 31-year-old scored nine goals last season, but Gala are looking to slash their wage bill and have decided to dispense with top earner Zaha.

If he can negotiate a pay-off, Gala could let him go elsewhere for free. Fotomac reported on 19 June that West Ham had made an offer to sign the former Manchester United player.

In any case, West Ham are not in a position to meet his astronomical wages. Unless Zaha reduces his wage demands, the Hammers won’t be able to sign him.

Zaha is a vastly experienced player who has managed over 450 appearances in the Premier League, and he has a few good years left in him. He can be a reliable option for the Hammers, but the key here is to get him on the cheap.

With Said Benrahma securing a permanent move to Lyon, there is room for a new addition. But Lopetegui must look for quality young talents with a high resale value than bring in someone like Zaha, who may not be as effective now as he was a few years back.

West Ham badly need to sign a new striker this summer. Michail Antonio and Danny Ings could be offloaded, and fresh additions are needed.
