Yankubah Minteh has rejected an offer from Everton to join Brighton in a £33million deal from Newcastle, according to Florian Plettenberg.

Writing on his personal X account (29 June), the Sky Sports Germany journalist reports that the winger is set to complete a move to the AMEX Stadium on Sunday with a medical to be completed (30 June).

Everton were said to be frontrunners [Fabrizio Romano, 24 June] for his signature but according to Plettenberg Minteh “rejected many options, including Everton”.

Everton highly unlikely to sign Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle

A deal for the 19-year-old winger always looked like it was going to get done from Newcastle’s point of view, but it was just a matter of where he ended up.

The Toffees were favourites simply because the Magpies wanted to bring Dominic Calvert-Lewin to St James’ Park and there were talks over a swap deal, but once Newcastle pulled out of those talks it was always unlikely.

Everton financially will struggle to splash in excess of £30million on a single player, and with Iliman Ndiaye en route to Goodison Park in a deal worth around £20million it was always unlikely both would join without a sale happening too.

Newcastle’s interest in Calvert-Lewin isn’t dead, but with them needing to sell before the end of the month to avoid a PSR breach it meant they had to sell to whoever offered the biggest amount.

Everton have missed out on a top talent, but with Jack Harrison already returning to the club and Ndiaye soon to follow him through the door, Sean Dyche shouldn’t be left short in attack.
