the most recent transfer rumors from Newcastle United, who appear to be gearing up for a big transfer week.

Newcastle United is getting ready for a busy transfer window as they look to offload one current player to stay in compliance with Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

There is an understanding that one player will be traded in order to spare United from the same penalty that Nottingham Forest and Everton received during the previous campaign, even though the Magpies are not thought to be in as much danger as some of their competitors in the top division. Currently, Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron, and Martin Dubravka are among the players the Magpies are supposedly interested in; but, Gambia international Yankuba Minteh appears to be getting closer to the St. James Park exit door.

The former Feyenoord loan star appeared to be headed to Premier League rivals Everton over the weekend, but that transfer has now been canceled, and Lyon, a French club, or Roma, a Serie A outfit, now appear to be the more likely destinations for a player who hasn’t played for Newcastle in the first team. Although there have been hints that Newcastle might try to fetch almost £40 million for a player they signed for just over £6 million in the summer, it is now believed that a price of about £25 million is more likely.

In the upcoming days, weeks, and months, United will have to make some important decisions on several players that Eddie Howe’s team is rumored to have had tentative inquiries about. Sean Longstaff, a veteran midfield player who is nearing the end of his contract at St. James Park, is reportedly being watched by Premier League newcomers Leicester City and Championship team Leeds United. However, the latter team’s inability to win promotion has likely dashed their hopes of signing the Magpies academy graduate.

Much like his stance on striker Callum Wilson, United boss Howe would like to retain Longstaff for the season ahead and it a keen admirer of the midfielder, suggesting he could push for an England call-up after impressing during the opening months of last season. Speaking after Longstaff scored in a Champions League win against Paris Saint-Germain, Howe said:  “I haven’t spoken with Sean in any great detail about the England squad or his dreams and aims, but I’d encourage it for him because I think he is good enough. I think he’s got everything depending on what system you want to play but for us, he perfectly fits the number eight role that we’re using him in.“

However, Newcastle did have a major call to make on the future of the academy graduate and Football Insider have now claimed the Magpies are ‘willing to listen to offers’ for Longstaff during the summer transfer window and would bank any income as pure profit under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations. A deal before the PSR deadline later this week is said to be ‘unlikely’ but United remain ‘open to the idea’ of allowing Longstaff to move on over the next two months
