yet though Celtic hasn’t yet started the transfer window, the team is already expected to receive a huge cash windfall.

There will always be players that come and go from the team, but over the past ten or so years, Celtic has become very adept at making sure they safeguard their investment by putting in a future sell-on provision for when our best players depart.

When players like Kieran Tierney and Jeremie Frimpong depart for their next endeavors—before Arsenal sets a £10 million price tag—Celtic will probably profit.

Additionally, we have seen in the past that when Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool moved from Southampton to Anfield for £75 million in 2018, a sell-on provision in his contract allowed Celtic to pocket £6.2 million. [The Highlander]

And now this summer, Celtic will reap the rewards once more.

Celtic cash in on Giorgos Giakoumakis’ Atlanta United exit

In February 2023, the large Greek striker signed a £4.3 million contract to join Atlanta United, leaving Celtic. Giakoumakis was scheduled to leave the MLS team for Cruz Azul, as we discussed about two weeks ago, and the transfer has finally been completed.

And now that he’s moved, Celtic will take home a cool £900,000 since, according to the Daily Record, a 10% sell-on clause made the Parkhead club nearly £1 million off Giakoumakis’ £7.3 million fee.

The international forward was a popular striker at Celtic amongst the fans due to his no-nonsense, physical side of the game that notched him 26 goals in 57 appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Giakoumakis’ goal-scoring record for the MLS side was just as impressive as his Parkhead numbers.

24 goals in 43 appearances clearly caught the eye of the Mexican side and they will be hoping that the former Celtic star will help fire them to their first title since 2021 after finishing as runners-up last season.
