If Hamza Igamane, who is headed to Rangers, gets selected for Morocco’s Olympic team, he may have to miss most of the preseason at Ibrox, as reported by the Daily Record.

The 21-year-old forward from FAR Rabat is reportedly in the running to join the Atlas Lions’ 18-man team for the Paris Games this summer, according to a report published in The Record’s print edition on June 17, page 48.

However, this tournament takes place between 24 July and 9 August, meaning that Igamane would be away during one of the most crucial stages of pre-season training at Ibrox.

Rangers are said to have agreed a £1.7million fee for the attacker, with his medical to take place before the move is announced at Auchenhowie.

Will Rangers still want Hamza Igamane transfer?

The Daily Record reports that the Gers have apparently already agreed to a £1.7 million fee for Igamane, indicating that they are eager to complete the 21-year-old’s deal regardless of the approaching Olympic Games.

A hectic summer of activity at Ibrox has seen Philippe Clement’s squad makeover take shape, but the potential departure of Igamane before he’s even truly arrived might be a blow.

Prior to first-choice number nine Cyriel Dessers suffering an injury in the Scottish Cup Final, the Gers required reinforcements up front, and their pursuit of Igamane indicates an early attempt to address that problem [Glasgow World].

The Ibrox striker pool may be even more reduced heading into the new season as a result of Sam Lammers perhaps being permitted to leave the team and Danilo’s arduous recovery from injury [Sky Sports].

However, the signals suggest that Igamane’s entrance is more of a development transfer than the true Dessers replacement Clement needs this summer, given that he is still only 21 years old, was purchased from Morocco, and is probably going to be chosen for a tournament that heavily coincides with the start of Rangers’ season.
