Amadou Onana of Belgium acknowledges that he intends to use the European Championships as a springboard to negotiate a transfer out of Everton.

Amadou Onana of Everton has said that he hopes to use the European Championships as a springboard to land a high-profile move out of Goodison Park.

The midfield player, who cost £33.5 million when he transferred from Lille to Everton in 2022, has been strongly linked to a second move this summer as several of the biggest teams in Europe, both domestically and internationally, are vying for his services. The 22-year-old has long-standing interest from Manchester United, who are also planning a move for Jarrad Branthwaite, in addition to Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona.

“At previous tournaments you have seen that the players who did well make the step up,” Onana said to Het Laatste Nieuws on his Belgium team’s group round matchup against Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine.

“I feel like showcasing my skills and offering myself to the elite of Europe. This European Cup is just one phase.

In an interview with Hamburger Abendblatt, via Sport Witness, Onana alluded to a potential transfer even though he emphasized that he respected the terms of his contract, which is with Everton until 2027. “I have the mindset that everything I dream about can come true,” he declared.

“At HSV, I realized my dream of becoming a professional. I moved to Lille, which fulfilled my goal of playing for a Champions League team and living in France.

And Everton gave me the opportunity to fulfill my ambition of playing in the Premier League. Actually, I have a plan for every step I take in my profession.

“I wish to improve as a player significantly. And in three years, I want to be a player for an international world club. In two years, I also hope to have qualified for the 2026 World Cup in America with Belgium. I have fantasies about it, and I’ll stop at nothing to realize these dreams as well.

“I must and will respond to this in a professional manner. I have a contract with Everton, and I’ll let the media handle the rest. We’ll see after the European Championships, but I’ll just give it my all there.
