Reading Head of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, has been hit with a Football Association misconduct charge for allegedly breaching betting regulations.

The Norwich City playing legend and Wales international ended his career at the SCL Stadium but has taken up a series of off-field roles, including first-team manager and his current Head of Football Operations title.

Now seen as the face of the club’s day-to-day running, Bowen has been key in recruitment and practises since his return in 2022.

However, he has until next Friday (June 7) to respond to the governing body after being charged with misconduct for placing 95 bets between 2022 and 2024.

An FA statement reads: “Reading’s Head of Football Operations has been charged with misconduct in relation to breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules.

“Mark Bowen allegedly places 95 bets on football matches between April 19 2022 and 14 January 2024, which were unrelated to Reading, and he has until Friday, June 7 to respond.”

This comes just weeks after former CEO and chief takeover negotiator, Nigel Howe was hit with a football ban relating to Michael Olise’s agent.
