Erik ten Hag said that Crystal Palace “hammered” his Manchester United team after they gave up their Europa League lead.

Newcastle United supporters were ecstatic with each goal as the Red Devils were soundly defeated at Selhurst Park. A rejuvenated Palace crushed Ten Hag’s men 4-0, and to be honest, the scoreline flattered the guests.

Michael Olise, a reported target for Newcastle, stole the game with two spectacular goals in either half. Man United was humiliated in South London, much as the Magpies had been two weeks prior.

That defeat put Newcastle in the driving seat for sixth place – with the Red Devils now eighth behind Chelsea on goal difference. Speaking post-match, Ten Hag blasted the “team performance” as speculation intensified regarding his future.

You can’t put this (down to) one player. It’s a team performance. It’s clear, it’s obvious, this is underperforming. We didn’t act how we wanted to and it’s not good enough.

“We are very disappointed. Our fans were behind us and we should have kept fighting like the fans did. There are always reasons. Everyone sees our backline – we have huge problems. At the end of the day, we have to deal with it and we should have done better.”

“Absolutely (whether he is the right man for the job). I will keep fighting. I prepared the team in the best way I could. It was not good enough, I have to take responsibility for that but I will find energy and prepare them for Sunday’s game.”
