Viktor Johansson joined Leicester from Aston Villa in 2018, coming in on a free transfer, being seen as one of the most talented goalkeepers from Scandinavia at the time. He progressed from Sweden U.19 to play for his country at U.21 level while on the books at Leicester.

His contribution in the development squad was good, but still not enough to convince Brendan Rodgers to keep him at the club as he was snapped up by Rotherham in 2020 on a free transfer.

He has since and up to today played 143 official games for The Millers, and this season having some of the best stats among goalkeepers in the division. He will certainly be approached by other clubs, and possibly not following Rotherham down after their relegation from The Championship.

Today Viktor Johansson has hit the headlines for a special and funny geusture towards fans, paying for the first 600 pints at a pub in the Rotherham town centre to thank for the support this season, as he might play his final game for the club this Saturday.

We have seen a number of good players being overlooked by Leicester and given away on a free, when you at this time see the club in trouble for spending heavy loads of money on fringe men, as it would probably been wiser to keep more of the development players and seeing them instead as fringe alternatives.

As a fellow Scandinavian, we are always having a special eye on these players getting a go in England, coming from over the sea to test themselves against the best there is. Viktor Johansson is just 25 years of age and with the current Sweden number one, Robin Olssen at 34 and not a regular at Aston Villa, we certainly believe the Ex Leicester goalkeeper soon will add caps to his tally, getting his first and only cap in a game vs. Moldovia in October 2023.

Stoke is one of the clubs in the chase for Viktor Johansson, having a £1million release clause in his current contract at Rotherham. The rumour about him leaving “New York”, looks to materilize. The Swede will be an attractive player among a great number of clubs, but a move to The Potters could be a good one for his progress.
