Long-serving West Ham player expected to leave London Stadium this summer – report

The Boot Room reports that Aaron Cresswell will likely depart West Ham United this summer as his contract expires.

The experienced left-back’s ten-year tenure at the team is expected to come to an end when the season ends, according to a news outlet article published on their website on April 25.

Cresswell, 34, has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season with one goal to his credit. Last summer, he was rumored to be leaving for Wolves, but that move never happened.

Aaron Cresswell exit has been coming at West Ham

Cresswell has been a loyal servant to the Hammers over the years, and was a favourite of David Moyes’ during the early years of his tenure at the club.

But in recent years the club have moved away from Cresswell as a regular, with Emerson Palmieri making the left-back spot his own since his arrival from Chelsea.

He has sometimes filled in as a third centre-back too, but with the expectation that Moyes will be leaving the club this summer in the search of a more attacking style, that seems unlikely to be a thing anymore.

Given that Cresswell is already well into his thirties and clearly on a downhill slope in his career, it is unnecessary to provide him a new contract if he isn’t playing frequently. It implies that he will probably follow Lucas Paqueta, who has been strongly rumored to be joining Manchester City, out of the club.

In any case, most would have expected this to happen, and maybe the supporters can offer him a fitting farewell in the season’s final home game against Luton.
