As injuries pile, enraged Sheffield Wednesday fans turn on Dejphon Chansiri.
Four key lessons from Sheffield Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat to Ipswich Town, as Xisco Munoz’s side continues to seek for their first league win of the season.Sheffield Wednesday on X: "Happy birthday to our chairman Dejphon Chansiri! Wednesday and Ipswich teamed for 194 points during the regular season in 2022/23. There were only two points separating the two teams, with the Tractor Boys edging out the Owls for the second automatic promotion place. The profit margins were quite slim.

The visitors won this latest match by a thin 1-0 margin, but these two teams are light years apart on and off the field.

Ipswich opened the game with the same lineup that earned them promotion, as well as the same manager and backroom staff.

In contrast, Wednesday has effectively smashed the team that went up in May, both in the dugout and on the field. Ipswich are certainly on the rise, and it’s no surprise that they currently sit third in the division. Wednesdays can only watch enviously.

The facts are cold and hard.
They averaged 2.6 shots on target per game in their first five league games on Wednesday. This goes from one against Southampton to five against Leeds last time out.

They were completely toothless in this match against Ipswich. There were no shots on target. There were chances for Josh Windass and Michael Smith, but little to trouble Town goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky.

“It’s true we didn’t shoot (on target) once, so it’s my fault,” Xisco Munoz remarked after the game.

“The strategy is not to shoot. Ipswich shot more than we did the whole game. Is it necessary to improve in the final third? Without a doubt. We are aware of this. Individual acts are sometimes taken, while group actions are taken. We need to shoot more, arrive earlier, and have better opportunities. I apologize to the fans for this today.”

Owner has bad blood
This was the first league game at Hillsborough since several fans demanded the resignation of chairman Dejphon Chansiri following the defeat at Cardiff last month. The ‘Thank You Dejphon Chansiri’ flag at the top of the Kop was defaced.

Just before the hour mark, we heard the first repetition of ‘Dejphon Chansiri, go out of our club’ from the Kop. As the game progressed, it moved to the North stand.

When the final whistle blew, the chants resumed. When the shouts are directed towards a management, it nearly always results in their dismissal. When it comes to an owner, it is unclear how this will all finish.

A long-standing banner representing Chansiri at the back of the Kop was vandalized with spray paint before the game, prompting the club to remove it entirely.
