Oh, how we owe those troublesome Pensioners one on their own turf. That’s for sure. Newcastle found themselves in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup for the second consecutive season, only to concede a late equalizer to Chelsea and eventually lose on penalties. It was a major disappointment.

So, after beating them 4-1 at home, let’s aim for a Premier League double on Monday night. That’ll keep them firmly below us, despite their lavish spending, a struggling new manager, and a longing for the glory days of Roman Abramovich.

There’s unrest among the Chelsea fans, and United can take advantage of that if we play to our potential. The fans were furious during a draw at Brentford, and returning home to even more supporters could turn toxic if things don’t go well. It’s up to Newcastle to ensure that doesn’t happen.

After a big win against Wolves, we need to bring some joy to Tyneside. Despite concerns, we’ve been solid on the road lately. Excluding a bad day at Arsenal, we’ve won five of our last matches, including four consecutive victories and a penalty shootout win at Blackburn.

We’ve got an FA Cup run going, so let’s top up our Premier League points. Beating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup dashed their quadruple hopes, and now Manchester City will be seeking revenge when we face them next. But first, it’s Chelsea and a chance for a double.

There’s uncertainty around the loan of Lewis Hall, and the club hasn’t shed light on the situation. Are we committed to a permanent deal worth around £30m? Why hasn’t he been playing? Is it Eddie Howe’s decision? These are questions many fans are asking.

I’ll be doing a talk-in with the legendary Peter Beardsley for United superfan Dave Parker at the British Legion Club in Prudhoe on Thursday, May 9. Tickets are only £10, so grab yours now from Dave on daveparker76@icloud.com or by calling 07500 358 954.

I am not sure if I have ever viewed our only world boxing champion Glenn McCrory as Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly. Nor having watched Joe Calzaghe on Strictly Come Dancing have I had great faith in top fighters being great hoofers.

However I could be proved very wrong come Saturday night at The Fed in Dunston when a North East version of Strictly is unveiled before critical eyes. McCrory is taking to the floor to do the Argentine tango with his partner Louise Crookes who I am sure will steer him expertly towards his dream of becoming Al Pacino in Scent Of A Woman!

It is all in aid of a good cause – to raise money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham – as 12 couples take part before a panel of judges just like Strictly with a glitterball as top prize. Glenn and Louise are treating it seriously having been in training for the last eight weeks and I sincerely wish them well. However it may be as tough as when McCrory fought for the world title back in 1989. Mind you, come to think of it he won then!
