West Ham’s attempts to bolster their roster have been severely hampered by Leif Davis’ contractual issue.
West Ham really needs to add some backup for Emerson Palmieri, even though he’s one of the top fullbacks in the Premier League this year. This summer, Ben Johnson and Aaron Cresswell are probably going to leave the team, leaving the Italian as the sole left-back remaining.
As our own ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed, Leif Davis is one player that the Hammers could make a move for in the Summer. The 24-year-old has had a sensational season in the Championship, providing an astonishing 12 assists in 33 games for Ipswich.
Unsurprisingly, West Ham view him as the perfect understudy to Emerson and, with just 1 year remaining on the Englishman’s contract, they were hoping to get him for an extremely small fee.
Disappointingly though, this does not seem likely to happen as, according to Football League World, Ipswich have the option to extend his deal by 12 months. Even though they are aware that he will most likely be leaving at the end of the current campaign, they will be keen to make as much money for him as possible which means they will most likely activate that extension.
However, that should not be too much of an issue for the Irons and, assuming they do not come up, they will be paying a relatively low transfer fee for someone of his quality. He made the step up to the Championship with ease, but can he prove himself at the highest level?
